Yes, good players are good no matter what tactics are used or are taught at their clubs. They can learn to dribble, attack, defend, and transition well no matter which club trains them. Many of the skills in display by the players were developed individually, in their own time, not by their clubs. See, reasonable people can agree on this forum. Let’s appreciate the players and not the money factories that try to steal their thunder.
But hunting goals successfully as a pack takes practice and discipline. You can not just put out a group of strong players and defeat an organized tactical team.
Sure, but Barca doesn’t have a corner on the best tactics, as recent times have proven. The time for tiki taka has come and gone. Lets let it go now and exhale deeply.
Nobody said they did. Just like the NFL has a variety of offensive tactics and systems. But Barca puts a premium on possession above all else. Sometimes to a fault but it is a style that is a part of the club’s DNA. Like anything, it has its pros and cons but the larger point is American soccer does not even come close to possession soccer. While Barca is the most extreme example of possession we can do better to play a more advanced style of soccer. To claim we do is just plain wrong.
This again. Even forgetting Barcelona’s recent troubles, you mean just like Croatia used all that awesome possession to beat France in the last World Cup? Oh wait. There’s no right or wrong way to play. There are different ways and advantages/disadvantages to each. Personnel, skills, and capabilities of the players play a huge role. It may be that a group from a given country is better suited to possession and another group from the same country years later is better suited to a direct, counterattacking style. Neither is wrong or “less advanced.” They are just different. Maybe people react to the condescending tone in these Barca threads.
