Does Reston offer a city vibe for 30something young adults or is it suburbia?
It’s suburbia to a tee. Don’t let the tall buildings in the town center fool you, it’s mainly families and kids. There are a few bars but it’s mainly divorced soccer moms who frequent the bars. If you want more of a city vibe, you’d have to go with Alexandria.
Agree. Alexandria has something for everybody. Definitely more urban feel. A lot of diversity, grit & a lot of fun. Good location to DC if that matters. Reston is just very scrubbed, boring and far away. It is safe.
Yeah I'll take "scrubbed and boring" for my young family over "gritty and urban" every day of the week.
I mean that's fair if that's your preference. I would question how much grit there really is in Old Town or Del Ray these days though. It's not exactly Columbia Heights. Even Arlandria (which is much lower income) is pretty chill, IMO. Most people are more worried these days about Arlandria being scrubbed, post Amazon.
With kids, pick Reston. Old town, Alexandria is an awesome town. I heard they have a powerful “dog” lobby and that you don’t want to go up against the dog owners there. Dogs rule old town. Lots of rich people with dogs. Total utopia!
