Social Media threat. Cabin John parents to blame. How hard is it to monitor your kids social media?? It’s not.
It's very hard to monitor. Your child has AT LEAST one or two accounts that you don't know about. I promise you. The best thing is to not give your child a smartphone.
I have a high schooler and in 7th grade he did not have a phone, and was not on social media. Actually, even now, he isn't on social media. Please don't generalize, PP, it makes you look stupid.
Since 13 year-olds can get social media accounts and many lie and say they are 13 and get them younger, I don't know that any parent can be absolutely certain their child doesn't have a secret account. Since MCPS requires work on a computer at home, the kids can get onto social media even if they don't have phones. Since my child frequently has to walk home from school alone, I want her to have a smartphone so I can see where she is and when she gets home. Parents can control the apps on the phone, though.
You can set their chromebook up with a family account, and not allow guest sign-on, and limit what they can/cannot view. This way, even if they have a secret account, they can't log on, at least from the configured chromebook.
