I think Quan, like many other coaches, have a preconceived idea in their head of a what a soccer player should look like.
If your kid doesn't fit that mold, he doesn't have much time for them, and he doesn't look to take advantage of  their strengths.
I've seen this from several coaches on different teams.

Coaches who run or are associated with "external" training companies always run the risk on being called for conflict of interest.
And whether its true or false, it comes with the decision that they've made to make money on the side.

Quan didn't like my kid and didn't do much for her. Other coaches with different philosophies and styles did.
I don't think he's a bad guy or a jerk, and many swear by his training, but it is the way he is.
