My brother and SIL and their 3 kids (all under 10) are all on the keto diet. I also find the restrictions frustrating. Their kids always have to count carb grams to see what sugars and simple carbs are in the food. I took my niece out for her 5th birthday last week and my brother and SIL determined ahead of time what her order would be to ensure it met the diet. It is exhausting. It means I do a lot less with those nieces and nephews than my other ones where I am not always anxious about messing up.
Ok this is different. Unless a Dr put these kids on keto for intractable seizures- kids should not be on keto. This is unhealthy mentally and physically for these kids. The SIL of OP probably just wants to limit refined sugar but likely allows them to eat whole grains and fruit.
Wow- did the kids have a weight problem? Or why Keto? Just curious- DH and I are Keto but our kids certainly are not! I don’t think the diet would be healthy for a growing child unless there was a medical reason...
Yeah it 100% is not healthy for growing kids. The only time it is indicated is for seizures in certain situations and then you have to be very on top of getting those nutrients in other ways.
