We are at MV and love every teacher we've ever had over the last 4 years. Wonderful teachers and great idealistic human beings as well, both for the main classroom and for the specials. I don't think that the things you mention in the post have affected the kids' classroom experience. I don't know about DCI. Is there data to support that MV kids have not done as well? I'd like to see that or learn more about where you got that impression. My kids have MV friends who commute from Brookland. Despite some comments to the contrary, I believe it is unlikely that you will have a chance at MV P Street again. MV8 is probably more likely, and more convenient to Brookland.
There is apparently a committee of parents who crunched the data. Ask the Padres.
What data did they have access to and then crunched? I’m skeptical. I also am not sure what ‘done well’ means - have friends? good PARCC scores? Got all 4s or higher on report cards?
They looked at data from all DCI feeders and MV kids were the lowest academic performance. I don't know much more than that.
It wasn't PARCC scores at DCI--it was comparison of 3rd-5th grade PARCC scores for DCI feeders. I don't think it's possible to get middle school PARCC data based on the feeder school. This MV parent says everything you mention is valid, but we still like it there. You might also be happy at Borroughs. Good luck with whatever you choose!
How far behind were the MV kids, and what is the plan to improve?
The DC School Report Cards make this kind of comparison easy (no crunching required). Whether it's valid is another story. I've got some time start your homework for you (you can tease out the grade by grade level data if you wish). As for improvement, you need to ask the MV leadership. I"m not even sure that competing against the other feeders on this measure is their goal. For 2018 School / 4+ ELA / 4+ Math / 3+ ELA / 3+ Math (grades 3/4/5 combined) MV /45.2%/47.2%/65.6%/68.6% DCB /32.8% / 30.2% / 62.4% / 58.3% LAMB/60%/38.3%/86.6%/72.5% YY/58%/58.8%/85.7%/84% Stokes 41.2%/38.5%/67.1%/69.2%
