OP, the volume needs to be up loud so everyone can hear. It's supposed to be a cinema-like experience. You're in the wrong-- you admit you're only there for the air conditioning. You need to decide if listening to the loud movie is worth the cooler environment. What you don't get to do is police people who are actually there to watch a movie while they workout. IT"S THE MOVIE ROOM.
No, it's first and foremost a gym. The movie feature is secondary. Nice, but it's not an actual theater and the chief purpose is to provide an alternative space to workout in. For some people, they prefer hiding in a darker space. For others, maybe it's cooler. But if you're there to just watch a movie, sorry, you're in the wrong place. You are in A GYM - not a movie theater.
Of course the primary purpose is to work out. But the primary purpose in that room is to work out while watching the movie, without headphones, which requires having the volume up so people can hear it over numerous cardio equipment. If you want to work out without high volume movies playing in the background, there are numerous places to do so. This really is pretty simple. I have no idea why you even posted this question, since you are intent on arguing with everyone who disagrees with you. It appears all you wanted in validation. Oops.
