I still can’t get over those gills. So gross.
You know, I didn't mind them. What upset me was how he was treated - being shipped off to Ohio and basically raped. It was wrong. He has a good heart and fcking Homelander killed thousands directly on screen with not so much as a slap on the wrist. I don't know why the Deep wasn't based in Hawaii or California in the FIRST place. I mean it would make sense from a PR standpoint and the usefulness of his powers. He could have been patrolling the Pacific with the U.S. fleet???
 The Deep sexually assaulted Starlight and it was implied other women would come forward.
And Homelander physically raped someone for three hours and fathered a child...which is worse? As far as I can tell the Deep flashed Starlight and emotionally manipulated her into giving him head. She's much more powerful than him and was too naive to fight him off. I'd say Homelander's actions were worse.
I'm not so sure he did. Homelander said it was consensual, and while he lies when it comes to work, he believes in honesty when it's personal. Otherwise he would have just killed Butcher instead of taking him to his wife, who will tell him the truth.
Are you kidding me? She went from meeting him at a party once to screwing him at the first work meeting for her job. No. She looked shocked, scared, and tousled when she stumbled out of that room after three hours. A consenting encounter with a man would at least involve a man she felt comfortable straight her clothes and hair with after a marathon round of sex. Her shoe was off her foot, her silk blouse was unbuttoned and untucked, her hair was a mess, and her makeup was messed. She was a career woman and not stupid enough to look like that in the middle of the day. Homelander also lied on national television about that plane going down too.
I don’t see Homelander as the type who hurts people for fun. He paradoxically sees people merely as objects- he gets neither pleasure from helping nor hurting them because they are beneath him- but also desperately wants their admiration. He wants to be seen as the hero who saves civilians and saves Vought, and will hurt people to achieve those ends. Rape wouldn’t do anything for him because it doesn’t give him that ego boost. It’s more likely they worked together, she was attracted to him and gave in, then afterwards realized what a terrible thing she’d done. Honelander brought Butcher to see his wife in order to clear his name since rape doesn’t fit with the hero image, and because he hates lying when it’s about or to him.
Did you completely miss the scene at the race when he is basically grabbing Maeve’s face because he wants to coerce her into getting back together?
Yes, there's also the fact that he's a callous psychopath. There are all kinds of serial killers - some who take sexual pleasure in demeaning/assaulting people, and others who simply think of it as a way to provide redemption for sinners like female sex workers or women who won't sleep with them. Homelander falls into the latter category. He is vicious, unfeeling, manipulative, and cold. The worst predator.
