Ugh. Yes, I do girls weekends, once a year, with my law school closest friends. Yes, I also do trips alone with my husband, while kids stay with grandparents. We also do family vacations (and in fact are doing one tomorrow night, just one night in a hotel to get away together). It’s all great. Lots of fun. Time together, time apart. Time with all the people I love, in different settings, in different combinations.
+1 I do all of the above as well. I like nurturing the different kinds of relationships that I have and I’m happy to spend time devoted to my husband, friends and family through separate trips with them.
+1. No need to only do one or the other. I do both and love them equally. I would never give up my family vacations just to do a girls trip, but I also do a girls trip probably once a year and love it. It is so empowering, supportive and re-charging to be around my girlfriends with no other responsibilities or time constraints. No one has to rush off to pick up the kids, go make dinner, or run to the grocery store. I actually just finished booking a house for one this year in November and I'm so looking forward to it. The responders who say they hate them or have no interest in them make me kinda sad. I can't imagine not having the deep, connected relationships I have my girlfriends. It goes beyond just dinner or happy hour every once in awhile. It's okay not to like them I guess, but I truly do not connect with that sentiment.
I'm PP who hasn't ever been invited on one- I'm very envious of the group of friends you have. Ive never been that popular sadly.
