Op here: thanks for your replies. My son is a freshman and has mainly Bs and gasp, a C. He is bright, but just not that into it. I don’t want to argue every night, but I am pushing him too. He is an athlete. I don’t want to get into the moco stressful feelings and comparing, but it’s tough! He isn’t going to a top school, but it seems like there are plenty of schools out there (many I haven’t heard of, which I also need to embrace) Fortunately, we have the means for public and private colleges. BTW: I didnt become intellectually curious til junior year, but it was prob easier to get into schools then and I went to a prep school in NYC. I am going to have to adjust my mindset some. I will get that college book. It’s tricky— bright kid who is social and just not that motivated, but again, i don’t want to argue all the time. He has a math tutor as well and we always check portal etc. I dont want to stress out over this too and in the process make us all feel bad. thx so much!
OP. I can totally relate. My son is very similar. Athlete, highly intelligent. Mine is also young-ish for his grade. Highly recommended this series in Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-unmotivated-teen
