This is equitable if you are also just using a last name for the middle family name - but people only have one option for a last name so it isn't the same if  you are choosing from a wide range of names. Men don't choose their last names

I have never understood this argument either. It is an odd marriage dynamic to me. I get how it is a feminist thing to stand against the patriarchy and male domination and make sure men know that the woman has all the power when it comes to motherhood. It is just such an antagonistic position. [/quote]
