So he gets into TJ?[/quote] My definition is when my child’s neuropsychologist tells me such[/quote] Well if you really did consult a neuropsychologist, they would tell you that "gifted" can mean many different things depending on how many std dev above the mean ie IQ ranges of 115, 130, 145, or 160 - 1 2 3 or 4 std dev above the mean for the std wisc-V test with extended norms. Most kids who are in competitive private schools and/or the bright kids in this area with 2 highly educated parents are probably at the 1 std dev level above the mean. The2 st dev "gifted" label for 130+ IQ is an fcps(aap) traditional cut-off but many other districts use the IQ 145+ 3 std dev defn (mine did when I was growing up and the was our county-wide cutoff. And amongst the cynics on dcum no one is impressed until they see a "truly gifted" kid with the 4 std dev 160 IQ. But each of these populations can benefit from a curriculum tailored to their needs. It is an empirical question whether a particular curriculum or school is the best fit for your gifted child given their std dev level and the peer group which most motivates them to enjoy learning and fit in to their school peer group.
