Poster above cites some of the largest hotbeds of soccer to compare to. No, NOVA is not #1, but yes we’re in top 10 to 15. Part of the issue with the teams in NOVA is an oversaturation of DA and ECNL clubs for our population. McLean, Loudoun, Arlington, FCV, Spirit, BRYC, and VDA all have ECNL or DA teams. Way too much diffusion of talent for a super competitive top tier team. Instead of 7 clubs with this, there should be 2. This would also end up making better EDP / NPL / CCL clubs.  Compares this to MD which basically has Spirit MD (DA) and Bethesda (ECNL), along with Mont. Rush (EDP) for roughly the same population. It is simple math, not player talent or coaching. There needs to be some consolidation, or NOVA will continue to struggle against other regional super clubs’ top tier teams.

Tangent note is the number of competing leagues (EDP / CCL / NPL / NCSL and the ECNL and DA leagues) with no discernible hierarchy also diffuses talent in our area. Everyone thinks they have a better approach than the other person. Now even Barca and Bayern are moving into this wealthy quagmire of parents itching to spend their money. No end in site, but still love the game. [/quote]
