There is a distinct possibility that she pretends to not see him looking her way. In her peripheral vision, her eyes dart to him and she’s watching his every move, listening to his every word. He guides the conversation because she is too nervous, and her mind goes blank. She probably hasn’t felt butterflies like this ever before and it scares her.
