36 ACT 4.2 WGPA 3.89 UW Accepted: Notre Dame (invited to scholars and merit semifinalist) BC Villanova Fordham (Dean’s Scholarship) UMCP (B/K Scholarship) Denied: UVA
Let the record show that UVA reject kids with perfect ACTs and only 1 or 2 Bs on their high school transcript.
OMG, imagine having those stats and getting rejected by UVA. Kid has amazing other choices and it will all work out but that is just jaw dropping. I hope it was not first choice.
It was likely as an OOS applicant which I believe would have something to do with it. Doesn't UVA weight in-state applicants differently?
Could be a variety of things. Lack of demonstrated interest, yield protection, other factors involving course selection or extracurriculars. It’s hard to say. My dd has a friend who was shocked by her rejection to UVA, but her 4.0 UW was in regular level classes, random electives and only 2 years of foreign language.
UVA doesn't engage in yield protection; it doesn't have to. You need a 4.44+ if not URM, Low income, etc. to get into UVA even with perfect scores, especially if from NOVA.
just on this thread alone, there is someone who got into uva with a 4.2 & someone (asian/white, obviously not urm) who got in with a 4.07. And they obviously got in early w/o being deferred. Where do you get the .44 anyway? 4.44 gets you in but not 4.43? And I don't know where you are but in fcps, there really aren't even that many kids with 4.4. You must be in a county where gpa's go up much higher. Maybe Loudoun?
PP here again. Once again, high school is private. Weighting is not as high as some publics. Kid is probably in top 10-15% of class. Half of the school are VA residents, so he has some tough competition within the school. Had he been in his local MCPS public school, I imagine he would have gotten at the very least deferred and had much higher likely of being admitted. It is fine...he is fine. We knew he would never end up there even if admitted because it was way down on his list.
