Anonymous wrote: What I’m not understanding is why a teacher who persistently raises concerns will just clam up when they get in the meeting around counselors and administrators? the only thing I can think of is that the teacher wants to make the Principal happy and the Principal does not want to issue an IEP or 504. Anyone have a logical explanation?
Have you attended one of these meetings? The teacher expresses concerns, and starts the ball rolling on a student study. The counselors, therapists and others within the school system then observe the student and review their performance, often collecting other data that the classroom teacher doesn't have. They can then overrule the teacher. And your theory is that the teacher is being quiet because they want to make the principal happy? The level of ignorance on DCUM about the power that a teacher has and does not have is mind-blowing. Decisions about IEPs and 504s are not up to the classroom teacher.
