Our in-home daycare is closed from 24 December until 2 January. Normal weekly payment is still required, so it's basically a week+ of paid vacation time for our provider and her assistant. (And since both parents are working, we have to scramble to cover that time with our limited vacation days, pay for alternative care, do parent swaps, etc.) We gave generously to our last daycare provider (also an in-home), but not sure what to do in this new situation. Do we account for the extra vacation time as part of the gift? Or no, because we knew daycare was closed during this period when we enrolled? Suggestions welcome!
So you don’t think your daycare provider deserves a paid vacation ?
Of course I do! She also takes off a week in the summer and a week in the spring. Daycare is entirely CLOSED during those periods, so we have to cover the care. In our last in-home daycare, when our provider took vacation, she had a sharing agreement where a trusted in-home daycare provider friend (whom we also met) would cover for her (with her two chargers) and she would do the same for her, so we weren't scrambling to cover 3 1/2 weeks of daycare being closed. I was wondering if we should factor in the extra week+ of time when this daycare provider is closed, since we will have to cover the care. I think I will do the same as I did last year for our other provider. It doesn't feel quite "right" somehow, but she is lovely and while it makes things a bit tight for this month, we can swing it.
