PK3 (no sibling preferences). We are going for Spanish immersion as DD is with Spanish-only speaking nanny and I speak to her in both Spanish and English (although still wouldn't list as Spanish dominant). Thoughts? 1. Mundo Verde P St 2. Mundo Verde Brookland 3. DC Bilingual 4. Stokes Brookland - Spanish 5. Cleveland - Spanish - English Dominant (OOB) 6. Shining Stars (would only accept Spanish track) 7. Bethune 16th St 8. Bethune Brookland 9. Stokes East End - Spanish 10. Langley (IB)
Replace Langley with Burroughs. Langley has a 1 Star rating.
She might not get into Burroughs. Langley is her IB and is guaranteed. The star rating is a statistical house of cards. Langley's K-2nd test scores are much higher, and it's a lovely, lively place. Also did you know that Langley is getting ONE MILLION DOLLARS from this stupid star system?
Agree that folks considering Langley should look at K-2 scores. They are exceeding all their growth goals. We are at Langley PK3. We love it. My kid can't wait to go to school in the morning and tell me what they did when home at night, which is probably the highest mark you can give a school. The teachers are loving and invested, the principal and assistant principal and administration are strategic and engaged, the social emotional program is implemented with fidelity and enthusiasm, we see demonstrable and steady progress in a skill areas for my child, the garden is a great addition, the two gyms are every child's dream, the families are so much nicer than our day care (ok...that's a very personal note :) ), they have two after care programs so you are guaranteed to get a slot. I realize that it is a risk to start down Langley path without demonstrated achievement in higher grades and understand why families may wish to put schools ahead on the list that give greater guarantee that the upper grades will be as amazing an experience as the lower grades. And, of course, no immersion. But for you and other families reading this post that may be considering or will end up at Langley, just wanted to give a shout out that we have experienced a lot of good thus far.
