You do not hurt your chances of getting into Maury by having it at #2 as opposed to #1. That is not how the lottery works. Everyone is given a master number, and when it's your turn, they go down your list in order of preference from #1 to #12 to see which school has spots. You'll be matched with the first school on your list that has a spot.[/quote]

The PP is pretty much right, but just to be 100% accurate: the odds of “missing out” on Maury and being matched at a school you ranked below Maury is the same whether you list Maury #1 or SWS #1/Maury #2. If you list SWS as #1, your odds of getting into Maury are slightly smaller (compared to listing Maury #1), but only because you’ve “added” the possibility that you will get into SWS instead of Maury. So between those two schools, rank whichever you prefer as #1. [/quote]
