someone told me they have this thing (all 3 FWD, TWD, and the Rick Grimes' movies plus some more) planned out for like the next decade. This has gone on way too long. I agree with everyone that it reached its peak a few seasons ago. there are only so many ways to pit humans against zombies.
I think part of the problem is that you’re still viewing it as a show about humans vs. zombies, which it really isn’t. The zombies are the background for a show about people.
If you saw the "next 3 episodes" clips, there was a scene where they were saying about the zombies.. "they are just milling around [or something like that]... have you ever seen them do that..?" This leads me to believe that they are going to delve a bit more into the zombie story line next season. But agree, for the most part the show is about human relationships.
I think the show would actually improve if it returned to being a bit more about zombies. Or about something. The problem IMO is that the human relationships became less compelling when they started killing people off willy nilly. This rehashing of, 'guy who chose violence and dictatoship to control his people' against, 'guy who chooses democracy and human kindness' in the apocalypse is just repeating ad nauseum. Watching Rick respond in slightly different ways to the exact same scenario might reflect real life but it isn't good television. And killing Carl was just so dumb, They should have killed Rick to have Carl take over. I dunno. I felt like the show was just playing with my emotions after Glen and I couldn't watch it anymore. Until one night I randomly tuned in and it was the Carl dies episode and I ugly cried and got mad at the show for losing how good it once was! When the show was about zombies (and raw survival) it was at it's best. When it turned into a soap opera with a side of zombie it wasn't scary anymore, it lost its teeth. And suddenly the zombie stuff began to feel unearned and cheap. If they started working towards an actual common goal like setting up a city, finding a cure, something, that would help. I'm over meandering through the world building up characters to kill them for cheap thrills. SPOILER for fear the walking dead I ditched FTWD when nick died for the same reason
So you haven't watched the show for at least three seasons, but you know exactly what's wrong with the current story lines?
