Actually, by law, under IDEA, schools must consider privately provided neuropsych or psychoeducational assessment provided by the parent.  there are some parameters - generally, can’t be more than a year old, must be completed by someone licensed and in the geographic area and must be considered qualified for the area of assessment.  The latter means beyond qualified as in licensed; for example, MCPS does not consider SlP’s to be qualified to assess reading or writing achievement even though they are professionally qualified to do these tests.  MCPS will only accept reading and writing assessment results from a psychologist or special ed teacher.

This can often be the case if the parent has not proved the other prongs of the IEP determination - adverse impact on education and/or need for special education.  These latter two areas are areas that a neuropsych is typically unable to provide strong evidence and thus where the school often tries to say they know better. [/quote]
