I’m black and have a young elementary-aged daughter.  I felt a little relieved when I learned we were having a girl, although I feel guilty saying it—black girls certainly have their challenges, but it doesn’t seem as dangerous out there for girls as it does for black sons.

However, even that’s not much relief, since I have a black husband and brothers. :(  [/quote]

PP here.  You're right.  There was also 19yo Renisha McBride in Dearborn, Michigan, who was shot and killed when knocking on someone's door after she got in a car accident.  And others.  I'm aware, but I still think the risk is greater for boys.  But not zero risk for either boys or girls.  We're all trying to do what we can to make sure our kids can make their way safely in the world.[/quote]
