Whether the cat broke the case or the cleaner broke it doesn't matter. What matters is that OP should just communicate with the cleane like they're both adults and simply say, "I found this vase broken. Like I said before, the damage isn't the issue but in the future if something gets broken during cleaning or if you just find something broken, just let me know so I don't find it later -- tell me that day, just so I know and can decide whether to repair or replace anything that's damaged. Thanks." Simple and grown-up. For OP to just seethe and want to dock pay after initially telling the cleaner it was no problem to break stuff is just immature. If OP has changed and now thinks some damages ARE a big deal she has to tell the cleaner that and set out a policy about docking pay going forward--but it would be crappy to dock pay retroactively like OP proposed in the post.[/quote]
