Bizarre answer. Kids of all types are targeted. I was from a pretty awful home but my mom talked to me about identifying grooming behaviors. It happened- I was approached by a few men over the course of my childhood- but I was able to identify the intentions and protect myseld from actually being molested. The men went on to molest other kids, in one instance a friend from a nicer household. You can't put a forcefield of love around your kid. But you can arm them with healthy cynicism about why an adult male is interested in a young girl or boy. [/quote]

Both concepts are actually true.  Unprotected children are especially vulnerable, but I also knew an all-star kid from a strong family who was targeted, groomed and molested in his middle teen years.  The molester was alleged to be a former minor league baseball player who nearly made the big leagues.  He was going to make this kid a star prospect. After a few years it seemed like no one ever saw or heard from Bobby again.  He died in his late forties - probably from AIDS.

The pedophiles are out there and they all have the same MO. They are popular we with many kids who they use as comoflouge.  But, they always have one favorite.  They seem quirky, but they have a plausible explanation.

It seems to happen more often with boys, but it happens with girls too.
