And it’s because American style fast foods are becoming increasingly prevalent in the developing world. So, yes, if you stop eating traditional foods and adopt an American diet, you’ll still get fat - just like Americans do. [/quote] PP here and while you are correct that fast foods are becoming increasingly available in developing countries, that is not really what I am talking about as that mainly pertains to urban populations. In rural Bangladesh it is the over consumption of rice and very limited consumption of vegetables that drives a lot of obesity. Oil and salt are also increasingly used but as part of traditional foods, not American style foods. What has mostly changed is decreased physical activity, especially for women. Also, people who are stunted because of poor nutrition as very young children are more prone to obesity, which is a major contributing factor. [/quote]
