OP here! I am so swamped I forgot about this thread! this is good food for thought-- so I don't drink milk, only almond or coconut milk in lattes
OP - are you getting your lattes at Starbucks or another coffee shop? The calories in unsweetened coconut/almond milk are about half of what they typically serve you in a coffee shop which is usually sweetened with extra sugars.
Starbucks uses unsweetened coconut and almond milk.
Actually, only the almond milk is unsweetened.
The almond milk is sweetened, but it does have the least amount of sugar of the three non-dairy milks. I've had good results with mixing protein powder (chocolate or vanilla) into my coffee with a bit of half & half. It tastes like a mocha and actually keeps me full, rather than plain coffee which just makes me ravenous. I have one for breakfast with a pice of fruit or oatmeal, and one in the afternoon as a snack. I find sipping on a drink over the course of an hour keeps me from snacking (which I can't stop doing once I start!).
