My mom and dad divorced back in 2000, married 20 years as well. Her alimony is up this year. She's been getting a stepped down amount each year and is down to $1,800/mo, much lower than what she started with. It's been 18 years and she never spent a single day of that cultivating a real career. Now she's completely fuc%ed st the end of this year. She's 64 and working at a daycare center for barely a fraction  over minimum wage

That's not uncommon with children from divorce.  If the kids grow up to be non-losers, and mom or dad is a loser, they tend not to respect that loser parent.
