My DD is currently at Northeastern and on co-op right now. There are a ton of kids who actually stay in Boston for their co-op (especially their 1st one) so they don't leave the area. If your co-op is in Boston you can live on campus so many kids are still there. My DD has several friends who have left for other places (other US cities and abroad) and she said you can feel a little difference and it can change a bit, but most kids adapt easily. I don't think it makes a significant change to the community feel. She still feels very connected and has a ton of friends and most of the kids understand and appreciate the chance to have a change. And they are back on campus before they know it - after a great experience.

To answer your other questions: You do not pay tuition while on coop. You will need to pay room and board (whether on campus or off campus) - obviously, but no tuition. I don't know how the FA works with coop salary....it might depend on whether the student is in a work-study program. That would be a question for the admission office.

My DD has been extremely happy at Northeastern. It's not perfect (welcome to the real world...), but the opportunities she has experienced (co-op, summer programs, etc) are tremendous.[/quote]
