I disagree. One of the most concerning aspects of the past year has been the willingness of many Republicans, even those who purport to be moderate and oppose the extremism that Trump supports, to make excuses for Trump, white Nationalists, and those who would destroy our democratic institutions and principles. The willingness of the Republican Party to allow and facilitate this calls into questions whether the party itself has any respect for the foundations of our democracy. Until the party can demonstrate that the answer is yes, no one who identifies with it can be considered a responsible political actor.
