We've gotten very off track here, but of course I care about the mission. And yes a fed salary is "perfectly adequate" but when you've outperformed 99.9% of your peers in your education/career some of us would like to not be stuck at perfectly adequate forever, even though we believe in the public service mission.
LOL. If you believed in the mission, you'd be working to help lift others out of the gutter, not complaining that you have nowhere to climb further up the ladder. Here's an example of a guy who cares about the mission of stopping people from dying in car crashes. He works a day job and advocates for car safety in his spare time. Thanks to him, we were able to find 3 car seats for our sedan instead of needing to buy a new car: http://www.thecarcrashdetective.com/3-across-car-seat-guide-html/ There are plenty of examples of people like him out there doing what they can for society however they can instead of constantly dreaming of how to not be "adequate." Consider joining them!
