If a tornado comes through MC on September 5, I guarantee the ADs will have rescheduled all the activities within a week.

There are all sorts of state laws that need to be met in terms of when seasons have to end and when they begin.  the schedule is set years in advance and you also have to take into consideration the construction that takes place at schools and like most posters said.  People who are in this lifestyle are totally fine with it.  It sounds like the OP has a kid who runs cross country and there are tons of kids who do that but i am sure the top runner sand their parents are ok with it as well.  Chances are they are just doing the sport to put it on a college application-easiest sport due to no cuts usually.  [/quote]
