Our child matriculated from Latin and the same incessant and somewhat mischievous dissecting of college acceptances occurred on this board. While its legitimate to question how the admissions are reported (I question this with all schools), it is purposely obtuse to be a non-Basis parent and pretend to know all the circumstances surrounding this first graduating class and to compare it to other schools in a way that is apples to oranges. There are very few students who 'hang in there' as the beginning class of a charter school, and they are all to be congratulated for their college admissions and aid packages. The Basis vision as I understand it with its AP focus is not for our family, but obviously it works well for some kids and families and will no doubt only grow stronger as the school comes into its own. I'm guessing the child who went to Princeton is a child well matched for Princeton and the children going other places are well matched academically for those places. It also sounds like there is a lot of financial support in play which may make some dreams come true. Basis is one more good high school option in a city that needs a variety of good options. Congratulations Basis!
Thanks Latin mom. -Basis mom
Thanks from us too! -- Another BASIS parent
You are most welcome. There's nothing that I can read into the Basis program that I can imagine would hinder a Princeton caliber student from getting there, and I'm sure a lot of other children got a good lift from their Basis experience to 'reach' schools along with some financial aid to make it possible. This latter is honestly the unsung story for me--children getting a boost who might otherwise have gotten lost in the education shuffle in our city. I am sure admissions will grow even stronger as classes matriculate who have been there from the get-go, but do take the time to righteously celebrate this first class. They deserve it.
