Congrats! I think she'll love it. The atmosphere is so great. I'm a PA resident who went to school there and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. And no, I did not come home with a redneck boyfriend and I had no problems getting a job (or interviews) in PA, NY, and NJ. Pay no mind to the ignorant snobs who know nothing more than a stereotype.
Thanks PP. She ‘s in the Capstone Scholars program and directly accepted into the IB program at the Business School. I was surprised my DD chose USC over Miami, but when we visited she felt it was the better fit. I found it hard to imagine here at a bigger school. But I think she made a good choice. As to the ignorant snobs on these boards, they are aplenty. Many of the posters here fancy themselves open minded liberals, except when it comes to Christians, the South, affirmative action in college admissions and school desegregation. If anyone doubts this, just read through the threads concerning Southern relatives; the Nigerian student admitted to all the Ivy schools; and any discussion of URMs/ESOL/FARMS students in local public schools. It is really sickening. I think the experience will be broadening to her as well. It will get her out of the DC/NOVA bubble. She is very attuned to LGBT issues, and was surprised to rainbow flags South Carolina. I said, “Well, now, your mind is broadening.” My daughter could do worse than come back with a Southern accent. Growing up, I was quite enamored of many a Southern belle with Southern twang. A Southern accent on a woman is just about one of the sexiest things out there. Think Elizabeth Taylor in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” or Vivien Leigh in “Gone with the Wind.” Finally, as a Southern boy who came north for school, I am looking forward to four years of SEC football. Go Cocks!
+1 This place is definitely a bubble, filled wtih pious white liberals who live in white neighborhoods and send their children to de facto racially segregated private schools, while admonishing southerners for their "racism." Most college towns in the south are quite liberal and far more diverse than in other parts of the country.
Tru dat! And then their kids go to SLACs where they engage in SJW tactics to defend against racism, sexism and other perceived ills by shutting down free speech, engaging in childish protests all while Mommy & Daddy shell out $50 - $60K per year so they can eat gourmet, farm sourced meals in the dining hall and continue to be told how "special" they are. They continue the bubble for another generation.
