Yes, some people commute already. But lots of people don't. To make a plan that will cause everyone who is walking to now have to commute is just backward. "Hey, you can walk a block to school and be there in 3 minutes, but we are going to put you on a bus and make your commute 30 minutes twice a day instead. Why? So more people can get on a bus and drive 45 minutes to your old school instead of going to the one they can walk to. What? Yes, we want to increase the number of people going to school far away from where they live and maximize the use of less earth-friendly forms of transportation. And we'd rather you sit on your butt in a bus than exercise." It is such a dumb idea they might actually consider it.[/quote]
