you could get them a nice spring outfit (other than easter outfit), book ( we got a stuffed animal each year, bunnies and lambs ),or little things for the outdoors that they can use as the weather gets nicer, like a soccer ball, butterfly net, jump rope, etc.
Afterthoughts on some other things I got at easter: hair ribbons, head bands, baretts, earrings, slippers, spring pajamas or robe. For a boy: baseball cap, sport jersey, water gun, outdoor /backyard game (check at sporting goods store, maybe darts or something).
I'm the PP^. I guess you have to explain everything in this forum or risk getting attacked. We always got the traditional Easter basket which included a huge chocolate egg from a fancy chocolatier, drugstore candy, a stuffed animal usually Easter related, (lamb, bunny, little chick, and sometimes a doll) small toy, or spring clothing item. While we always loved candy, you could only have so much and my grandparents also gave us Easter baskets. Other little items were thrown in under the fake grass in the basket or just placed beside the basket. It was so much fun finding these other little gifts when we got older. We knew what the meaning of Easter was but, it also was when we saw the first sign of warm weather which meant we got to play outside in the yard more for the first time in awhile. The outdoor type toys like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, hoola hoop, baton, butterfly nets, etc. were such a hit and seemed like a big deal after being crammed in the house all winter. New hair ribbons and earrings to go with my Easter outfit made the day more special. Of course I already had slippers but it was a good time of year to get new spring ones with a cute matching nightgown for the warmer weather, or a really nice new flowery robe. For older kids of course the gifts are different, but who wouldn't still like to receive a homemade basket with delicious chocolate, even the drugstore braND. My mother still thought of my grandparents for Easter, while they didn't get an Easter basket, they got flowers or outdoor plants and even got a tree for their yard one year. You are never too old to receive for Easter. I'm sure everyone wants and appreciates being remembered. I appreciated these little extra things that when along with the Easter basket. One year my mother surprised us with a card, stickers, and stuffed animal for St. Patrick's Day. I took it to school to show all my friends. I was the only kid in my class whose parents got them anything for St. Patrick's Day. My mother's not even Irish and we were estranged from my half Irish father, so I guess this was my Mother's way of making us feel special and it sure worked! Happy Easter to all those who celebrate!
