Right to work gives employees the choice whether or not to join a union. Shouldn't everyone be free to join a union and more importantly to pay union dues only if they freely choose to?
+1
You always have the right not to join the union, anywhere in the country. However, in certain states you are required to pay a fair share fee that covers only the cost of representational activities of the union, i.e. Negotiating the contract that you benefit from, handling grievances under the contract. Fair share fees do not include costs relating to activities not germane to collective bargaining, e.g. Political activity, lobbying. So called "right to work" states allow individuals who benefit from union contracts to free ride off their coworkers by not paying their fair share and contributing to the shared cost. If you don't want a union in your workplace, you are free to organize 30% of your co workers and the boss will hold a decertification election. Too much work to have to convince your co workers you don't want the union? Then, stop complaining.
The option is to just go work somewhere else if you don't want to join the union.
