I am a nurse and while I haven't been in the profession in about 5 years, I have a couple friends still in it and what they describe is terrifying. Nothing that we haven't already read, that they have to reuse the same mask forever and if it gets soiled, too bad. I'm wondering what happens in 2-3 weeks when all these healthcare workers come down simultenously with COVID, who is going to be caring for the patients? That could be more of an issue than lack of ventilators and not one that I have seen discussed... Also, one wrote MRSA and VRE are no longer considered "isolation" at her non DC hospital so expect hospital aquired infections/deaths to skyrocket.
Lots of hospitals don't isolate MRSA or VRE anymore except in some limited instances such as an open wound or for infant populations. It's so rampant in the community, isolating anyways is considered arbitrary unless you overtest to determine every possible person who has it. This isn't new to COVID. Also, isolated patients lose out on getting the same level of care because people avoid going into the room as much due to gowning up, unless they absolutely have to.
