Veteran journalist David Shuster laid out the reported terms of the emerging U.S.-Iran agreement in blunt detail and called it a surrender. Under terms circulated by Iranian state media, the U.S. would withdraw all forces from the Persian Gulf, lift sanctions, release $12 billion immediately and another $12 billion within 60 days, fund $300 billion in Iranian reconstruction, and cede control of the Strait of Hormuz to Tehran. In return, the U.S. receives Iran's promise to discuss its nuclear program, a commitment Shuster said does not constitute a deal.
Trump is desperate to extricate himself from this quagmire, but I don’t think even his demented, narcissistic self is this desperate. The US is not giving Iran 300 billion dollars of American money. Yeah, Iran can have their own 30 billion confiscated dollars, but where is the 300 billion coming from? And no, the US is not pulling out of the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Iraq, and Bahrain. No way. And where are the terms for Israel to stop bombing and annexing Lebanon to become the greater northern Israel. This agreement doesn’t sound right and there’s nothing in it for the USA.
DP the problem with your statement is the withdrawal from UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Saudi and Bahrain will happen. The US can not maintain bases in the region because of Iran’s missile and drone capabilities. It would cost 10-15 billion to build out each of these bases’ infrastructure to operate under constant missile and drone threats. Even then the base will be overwhelmed in a week or two. Any US military base host country is a target for Iran and the US did not defend these countries during the war. The US put all its resources in to defending Israel. The gulf states are pissed at the US and see no reason to continue the arrangements. The Lebanon part is in the proposal but does not impact the US. So is not talked about. A lot of the demands by the Iranians are facts in the ground. To change them the US would have to be willing to invade and see 20% of the world’s oil offline for 5-10 years. The Chinese have stop buying 7.8 million barrels a day. This is why oil prices are low. This will not last. Iran will have more leverage when oil price hit $200.
