Can anyone ID the teams with the parent coaches?
1. Go to this URL: https://www.virginiavalorfc.org/2024-2025coaching-staff 2. Find the names that match the initials EL, KL, KU, CS, SA, CR, GL 3. You are a rocket scientist!
No, I think you misread the PP. To be fair it wasn’t well written. At least a couple of those are not parent coaches… they don’t even have kids. And at least one more has kids but doesn’t coach their team(s). I think PP meant that sometimes a parent is better than so called professionals and then used those names as an example. Can anyone help us clueless parents understand what good coaching looks like? I’m being serious. I try to stay out of the way and don’t have any frame of reference for soccer coaching. I kind of think even a good coach can only do so much with a mediocre talent pool. Likewise, a group of talented kids can make a mediocre coach look good.
Agree on the last point and know of at least one team where talented kids are making a mediocre coach look good. By no means a complete list but IMO a good coach should: 1. Be engaging with the kids, relate to them, and make them want to show up to practice. Also be able to discipline when needed. 2. Be organized in the practices. (We can tell when you’re winging it.) 3. Identify what the team needs to improve and do drills in practices to work on these things. 4. Coach appropriately for the age group. Simplify for younger kids, push harder for older kids etc. 5. Have a solid understanding of the game. Helpful indicator if they have played at a fairly high level but must also be able to break it down and articulate to younger players. A girl can dream right?
