I do think the whole blended family thing will end up being Aidan and Carrie’s downfall. The only question is if they’ll make it realistic (they start fighting about how to handle things and realize they aren’t great together) or they part ways amicably, leaving room for them to end up together.
He’s going to leave her. He’s going to decide that that much time in New York, away from his family, away from his farmhouse, is not something he can handle. It will all be very sad and very sweet. What I wouldn’t give, even just for a one-scene cameo, would be a run-in with Berger. Just long enough for her to be like, “You broke up with me on a Post-It,” and for him to sincerely apologize.
But then, couldn't Carrie go with him? She can write books anywhere.
She could, but there's no way Carrie will leave New York for a man again. Definitely not to go to Norfolk VA.
To me, I think this means Aidan breaks up with her and Carrie isn't given an option. I don't think they'd want to pose it as Carrie choosing NYC/career over Aidan. They're making Carrie all in, as evidenced by her deciding to sell her safety apartment. So this has to be Aidan's decision. Maybe he decides he needs to devote 100% to his boys for a while and kicks her to the curb.
It looks like the writers are setting it up for Carrie to keep the apartment and sublet it to the jewelry designer girl who is being kicked out of her place by “the gay landlords”.
