The complicit GOP in Congress is such a mystery to me. Are they all grifter billionaires? I don't understand why none of them has any spine whatsoever. They all know this horrible man is a fraud who has dementia that's very dangerous for the country. Yet they act like nothing's happening, all is well. This is insanity, yet it continues unabated.
And it's not like they haven't griped about Trump all these years. They've hated him for years. In the first term, the GOP congress was already complaining about him behind closed doors. I blame the rightwing media ecosystem, owned in part by Murdoch. That man has wrought destruction on the USA. The Trump cult has taken a life of its own, and elected representatives are afraid to organize against the President because they fear what the rightwing pundits will tell the base. Meanwhile, as was seen during the last Trump term, these same media pundits think very poorly of Trump, but go along because... they think he's untouchable??? Everyone seems to be waiting for someone else to not be a coward.
But even much of the base is having doubts. And continued high gas prices will break the Trump adoration quickly. That’s getting owned instead of owning the libs. The feckless GOP is inexplicable.
PP you replied to. Not quickly enough, unfortunately. Poll after poll show that the base is highly loyal. What they are showing is that the base is shrinking, however. I'd like to see more data on how many conservatives identify themselves as Trump supporters since the November 2024 elections. For Trump's hold on the base to really crack, Fox news et al have to show all those clips of him acting completely demented, which they haven't shown. But they won't, because they think their base still loves Trump. And the base has doubts, but those doubts are assuaged by Fox and Newsmax. If both get into lockstep against Trump, then that's the end of him politically. Sadly, I think he has a greater chance of dying of natural causes before that ever comes to pass. I would rather he die in ignominy, despised by everyone, than have Fox singing his eulogy and all the base rallying like they did with Charlie Kirk. If it's the latter, the GOP politicians will swallow their hatred of Trump and insist that he was a wonderful President. He's going to be lionized. He needs to die after having a public dementia crash-out, while gas prices are super high and there are shortages everywhere.
