When I was a tween (we didn't call it that back then!), I got a book from the book fair about dreams and what they mean, etc. It was actually very deep and inspired me to keep a dream journal. I kept reading the book, and one afternoon was home alone, reading the book and fell asleep on the couch. I woke up and felt really wierd. Off. I walked outside, don't know why. I felt a panic. I didn't know if I was awake or asleep. I thought maybe asleep and all of a sudden it *terrified* me to think anything scary could pop up, and yet I felt all the reality of being so awake. I must have just been dreaming about dinosaurs (thanks Jurassic park), and I was so afraid they would show up. Full of straight up fear of dinosaurs. It sounds silly, but even if you as an adult really felt that, you'd be scared out of your mind. Again, no one was home so I was even more afraid. I ran back inside and 'woke up.' I hid that book somewhere because i never wanted to find it again. Creepily I could never find it, even though I wanted to a few years later. I have no idea why I wanted to hide it, persay, or where I put it. Fast forward to several years ago and I heard of lucid dreaming. I think that's what was happening. It was a scary feeling at my age.
I'll add: when Newtown happened, I heard about Lanza being interested I lucid dreaming. I think the news mentioned it but not much was made of it. However, I knew my young experience, and I knew the strange feeling it can cause. My heart breaks for all involved, and I just want to say that if believe if lucid dreaming was related somehow. I heard something about navy yard too, and it pricked my ear. (And I'm sorry if anyone you know was affected in that.) I don't bring these up to politicize or to hurt. Just found a connection to my experience in those events, and many people missed that detail, but I sure noticed.
Last little comment on this topic, I promise. Or else I'll get kicked off to start a new forum. I found sources re: loughner the Arizona shooter. And I found mention of Adam Lanza in one article but not more than a mention Obviously there are mental issues like schizophrenia, etc. but I think a few have had interest in lucid dreaming, and it's strange to me having had a negative experience. And seeing mention of it over the years in mass shootings. Ok I'm officially done with this topic now.
