Is there a basis in the Koran for it being ok to wear makeup but requiring hair to be covered? I've seen several muslim women wearing headscarves with really terrific makeup on, it looked nice but I didn't understand how it was consistent.
When looking into Islam you have to examine the Quran and the Sunnah (Ahadiths) of the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alahi wa salam. As Muslims you are not allowed to adorn yourself for anyone but your spouse, or in certain cases, say you're at a gathering (we only do same sex gatherings as free mixing leads to problems) you're allowed to dress up and wear the make up but you have to keep covered in the presence of others not related to you (mahram) or others.
