university system requires at least 70% of undergraduates be MD residents
Are about 18% from Montgomery county MD?
https://reports.umd.edu/tableaupublic/1824 Montgomery County accounts for 35.2% (8339/23635) of the undergraduate population at UMD, compared to only being 18% of the total population of Maryland. MoCo isn't being shorted with respect to attendance at UMD.
Now do it for kids with sats over 1500, or kids who got 5s on AP Calc BC. I bet McPS is being shortchanged with respect to high stats kids. Families in this state who care about education often move to McPS so we have a disproportionate number of highly qualified kids. We moved here from PG for instance.
I have heard that it is easier to get into UMCP if you graduate from PGCPS than MCPS. It's not just about DEI because most of the kids I know from PG at UMCP are white. Eleanor Roosevelt High School seems to have a huge number of kids that transition over to UMCP. Someone told me that UMCP sets aside X% of seats for each county based on the population of that county. I have no idea if it is true or not.
