In my experience most of the better programs have few spots left and save them for surprise players who impress at fall camps, players who mature and emerge next summer and for top academic programs, a decent players with great academic credentials they pick up next summer to help the team average.
This would be few and far between. I would not go to any fall camps or showcases if you are 2026 without making sure your coach has made contact with the college coach to confirm serious interest. Players can now directly contact and call coaches too. Thinking you'll get noticed at a prospect camp as a 2026 is very unlikely! If you are 2026 do not go to any camp or showcase without confirming with the coaches or the coaches attending that they have serious interest so you're not wasting your time and money.
This is on point coaches rarely find talent at prospect days. They help pay assistant coaches.
Coaches do find talent at prospect camps but timing for a 2026 to get noticed at a prospect camp NOW at top D1 would be a little late. The player can email the coach, send their highlight video and request a call to discuss if there's any opportunity or roster spot. They can ask the coach if it is worth them attending the prospect camp and they can also have their club coach call to gauge the level of interest before they pay a bunch of money to go to a prospect camp as a 2026. For a 2027 absolutely should be going to prospect camps of their target schools during the fall and winter to help them get on the radar.
This is true, but the key word is top. There are roughly 900 D1 roster spots per class (75 schools x 12) and according to Inside Lacrosse, only around 350 players have committed. The rosters are close to full at the top schools (Big 10, ACC, Ivy League), but a large number of D1 schools are just getting started.
Heard from a few coaches that are taking smaller classes this year. Most won't be taking 12. The service.academies.are different.
