Because they’re selfish. Everyone can wait while they back in so it’s easier for them to pull out. Me me me. Any other explanation is rationalizing selfish behavior, which is rampant in the dmv.
Or, everyone can wait while they back out (with their 15 point turns since they have no idea where the front of the car ends). Me me me. Any other explanation is rationalizing selfish behavior, which is rampant in the dmv.
What? 15 turns to back out? Backing out is way easier and quicker than backing in. That’s the point.
No. It really isn't. The first problem is that people don't pull in properly. They cut the corner, don't leave themselves a sufficient turning radius, etc. Thus they end up going backwards and forwards to get the car in. And more often than not, they end up with a car that isn't straight into the space but angled in. That screws the people on both sides up. When you pull forward into a space you have cars on either side of you interfering with your ability to see. People also can't seem to tell where their front end is so they back out too far. Then they are too close to the cars in the row behind them so they need to pull forward and then back up again. Go to any parking lot and you will see people basically stuck between rows of parked cars going forward then backward, often more than once If I back in, I pull past the space and in one smooth move back in. When I leave those two cars are irrelevant as is the row opposing me. That is why backing in is easier and safer.
