There’s a lot to unpack there.

The average American doesn’t follow politics.

The average American does not think “our democracy is on the line,” at least not as you mean it, and they think the use of that phrase to attack the GOP is hyperbolic, though they wouldn’t use that word.

The average American cares how much it costs to insure their house and car and health, how much it costs to take themselves or their kids or their parents to the doctor, how much it costs to fill up the SUV, and how few bags $100 of groceries fills compared to 2019. They care about whether automation or immigration will compete with their kids for the jobs in their area that haven’t gone overseas or to a lower-corporate-tax state.

The new VP candidate is perceived as someone who gets that, even if you don’t.[/quote]
