The guy is a misogynistic "traditionalist". Most of the Christian moms I know worked. Some out of necessity, and some because they wanted to do something other than just be a mom (like me). I enjoyed using my brain at work. I feel I got dumber when I was as a sahm for 2 years. It's supposedly a sin to not use the gifts God has given you, and if God made me good at what I do, then I'd be sinning by not using my gifts (according to traditionalists). And the whole thing about dads being present.. that's not a new thing. Anyone remember the Million Man March? Only men need a march or a football player to remind them to parent their kids.
I too was trying to puzzle this out. I am trying to reconcile growing up in the church and hearing God has a plan for our lives - and that it can be who you are supposed to be with, or not, having kids or not, what is the career or job you take or not - basically where you are supposed to be and it’s prayer and faith that helps guide your journey ..with what he said in his speech. I don’t understand how I can tell someone else what God’s plan is for them when I am not God and I am not the person involved. With dads being present, I was just thinking about this today We have history of humans being horrible to other humans even when the people doing so were raised in a home where the dad was present. For so much of history there were certain norms around 2 parents, with mother staying at home but that didn’t mean we didn’t have violence and evil. So in my mind it’s more about being a good and present parent to your children no matter your gender or marital status and handling whatever personally you may have going on that would get in the way of that. That still doesn’t mean you know how your child will turn out - there is always both God’s plan and free will - at least how I was taught religion.
