FCPS unnecessarily overcomplicates things. They already give iready, which is a high ceiling adaptive test that gives a grade level placement as well as quantile level for each kid. A math score of 586 indicates that the kid belongs in 9th grade math, which is algebra. There probably aren't that many FCPS kids who score 586 or higher on the iready math at the end of 5th grade.
Now I'm curious.. where can I find which grade level a specific iReady math or reading score corresponds to?
The iReady chart breaks out columns as grades K-12. The rows are percentile based on score. The test is adaptive so kids in lower grades will get progressively harder questions. Higher scores indicate that the child was correctly answering higher grade level material. I am not certain of this but I believe the answers are multiple choice so there is a chance that the child guesses correctly on some of those, which is why there are additional assessments given by the school before moving a child ahead. You can see where your child's score would place them in higher grade levels by looking their score up in the older columns. Again, it is not the best measure but it is there.
