Fascinating discussion. It may help for some of you to just start with Wikipedia on Cowboy Carter? As a child she attended the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year with her family wearing western clothing. She performed at the Rodeo four times between 2001 and 2007. Beyoncé's first notable association with country music came in 2007, when she performed a bluegrass-inspired version of her hit "Irreplaceable" with country duo Sugarland at the American Music Awards. She first released an original country song in 2016 with the song "Daddy Lessons" on her album Lemonade. Beyoncé, with the Chicks (who had previously covered the song), performed it at the 50th Annual Country Music Association Awards on November 2, 2016. The performance received critical acclaim and gave the CMA Awards their HIGHEST viewership figures in history; however, some country music fans criticized Beyoncé's attendance and felt she did not belong in the genre. The CMA deleted ALL promotional posts about Beyoncé's performance, succumbing to the pressure in an attempt to prevent backlash against the organization. —- Beyonce has been country, and certainly meets the criteria by any stretches of the DCUM imagination. She has likely attended more rodeos than you, and if not she has performed at more rodeos. Definitely more AMAs and CMAs, no? And while she has faced discrimination, do you know what Linda Martell was bombarded with? Do you know what it means for Linda Martell to be on this album with Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson? Oh, and NO ONE is up in arms about Dolly Parton! Boycott Dollywood is not a battle cry lol. She is literally treated like royalty here and has a pristine reputation. I am not a super fan of Beyoncé. But the DCUM minimizing and erasure of her knowledge and participation in this area of music is mind boggling. And I won’t venture to guess why….so I will suggest you consider lyrics from Willie Nelson on Smoke Hour II: “You're turned into KNTRY Radio Texas, home of the real deal And if there’s one thing you can take away from my set today, let it be this: Sometimes you don't know what you like until someone you trust turns you on to some real good sh*t And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I'm here Up next on "The Smoke Hour" is, "JUST FOR FUN" by Beyoncé You’re welcome”
Yeah, people being dismissive are forgetting where Beyonce is from.
Beyonce arriving at the Houston rodeo to perform. She wore a cowboy hat two years ago in her Ivy Park ad.
